Artful Reading

Thought I'd give Darcy's challenge a go as I really need to get back into reading - I have a massive pile of books and I need this nudge to get on with it. The arty bit happens when create a piece of art, in any form we like, to the book we've just read and reviewed. The review and a picture of our art will be posted on here (on our own blogs) on the 25th of each month. I'm expecting most of mine to be in the form of art journal pages but at this stage, who knows?

We are to choose/read 12 books, 1 a month. Here are my 12 (in no particular order):

The Ringmaster's Daughter - Jostein Gaarder
Life of Pi - Yann Martel
The Best of Times - Penny Vincenzi
Eat Pray Love - Elizabeth Gilbert
Rebecca - Daphne Du Murier
The Pickle King - Rebecca Promitzer
A Vintage Affair - Isobel Wolff
Mind Chi - Richard Israel
Safe Haven - Nicholas Sparks saw the trailer for the film tonight at the cinema and it looks brilliant)
Beautiful Creatures - another trailer I saw at the cinema this evening - the glimpse of cinematography looks fascinating, strange but oddly beautiful. Could end up being another Twilight type yawn but we'll see.
Stargazy Pie - Laura Lockington
When God was a rabbit - Sarah Winman

The first book I'll be reading is Penny Vincenzi's 'The Best of Times' as it's the biggest so I thought I'd go for it while I'm enthusiastic. I'll have to get my skates on to blog and create the art on the 25th though.

  1. yay so happy to have you with us Dee, looking forward to your life of Pi review. I started it on an e-reader, but I got fed up, I much prefer real books.

  2. Good luck with the challenge. I've heard a bit about Life of Pi, so I'll be interested to see what you and others who are reading it say.

  3. I have only read Eat, Pray, Love and that book felt like a million pages to me... The story didn't catch me and I struggled to get to the end... Hope you like it better! ♥

  4. A few people have Life of Pi, so it should be interesting to compare reviews. It's on my Kindle but not on my list. I'll wait for the reviews to read it. Got the film of Eat, Pray, Love. It's OK so your review will be interesting. And Rebecca, you may make me re-read it. Look forward to it.

  8. Life of Pi I read a while back - I'm a maths graduate and bought it purely on the strength of the word Pi in the title lol - it's a lovely book but not about maths at all :D

I look forward to reading all your reviews...

  11. Your comment on my blog is interesting, because I am very much not into the fantasy genre, never managed to get into Tolkein and gave up on Game of Thrones after three chapters, and because of this I dismissed Pratchett for many years because the book covers looked too sword-n-scorcery for me, but then I finally gave him a go and thought the books hilarious! Maybe he appeals more if you DON'T care for the genre!

    1. Angie why don't you come over and join the challenge (I couldn't find you among the list of participants)? If you like reading you might enjoy it - you're certainly arty (I've just had a look at your blog). Would be great to have you along. I was remiss in putting a link in my original post to Darcy's original challenge page but I've rectified that now. Off to have another look at your fab art.

  14. Hi, just found your blog, I'd love to meet up with people in Devon who are into art journalling. Wish I'd known about that workshop you went on,(back in December?) sounded fab!
I enjoyed Eat Pray Love, and a friend has raved about Life of Pi, but I haven't read it yet.
